HOME SALES PICKING UP

Charleston, S.C. (March 10, 2008) –– February home sales increased over January (579 to 636) and the number of homes under contract increased from January to February (1006 to 1144), signaling the start of spring reported the Charleston Trident Association of REALTORS®.

“Spring is historically busy in real estate, but home sellers and buyers may be finding equal ground,” said Wil Riley, president of CTAR and broker associate of Century 21 Properties Plus.  “Sellers are being more realistic about pricing their homes – and interest rates are low, so it’s a great time for buyers to enter the market.”

The median price of a home decreased slightly from $205,000 to $200,000. The average number of days a home spent on the market was 124 days.

About me

I live on a barrier Island that is located between downtown Charleston and the Atlantic ocean. The name of the Island is James Island. There is a beautiful beach behind my home called Folly. Sometimes I find wind surfers playing on the ocean. When I am not enjoying the ocean air or playing on the Cooper River, I list and sell  real estate for Keller Williams Realty. I help individuals with searches, showings, loans, and closings. I also advertise real estate for sale. You can advertise your FSBO on my site for free!

Most days you will find me by the ocean enjoying my friends and family. Behind my house is a beautiful place called the Morris Island Lighthouse. I am very attracted to the tri-county area of Charleston South Carolina. The area is rich with history and architecture. Over the years I have done a lot of offshore blue water scuba diving on shipwrecks. I have also invested a lot of time diving the Cooper River in search of historical artifacts and fossils. I have made a hobby of collecting fossilized Megalodon sharks teeth. I am often asked where are sharks teeth found? I have explored many places on the Cooper River. They have names like Strawberry Landing, Mepkin Abbey, and the French Quarter. I made a map to show where I have dove the Cooper River and found Megalodon sharks teeth.

For surface hunting, Lee Creek in Aurora NC is a very popular location for finding fossils of all types. Any large mining or digging operation where phosphate is exposed to the surface will yield fossils. Edisto Beach is a good location to find shells and fossilized material. Common targets of fossil hunters are spoil banks or piles of dumpage from the bottom of the rivers. The fossils are in the layers of the earths crust called the Hawthorne and the Chandler Bridge. Wherever these layers are exposed, you will find fossils. The river cuts through these layers. The teeth fall out of the sidewalls as the soil is worn away.

There is a shallow river in Florida that is very popular. It is called the Peace River. Learn to recognize phosphate. It is gray and pasty and clay like when wet. Look for black rock and  hard fossilized items (bones, shells, etc) embedded in the gray clay (phosphate). Water causes items of similar weight to accumulate together. What you are searching for are rock beds within the phosphate. Wherever the phosphate is exposed to the surface, you will find fossils. Good luck and happy hunting!
